Granite Recognized for Charitable Donations in Massachusetts
Rand Currier leverages over 30 years of experience in the telecom industry in his role as senior vice president of operations with Granite Telecommunications. Under the guidance of Granite's CEO Rob Hale and Rand Currier, the company strives to be a leader in philanthropy and was recently recognized as Massachusetts' second-most charitable company by the Boston Business Journal (BBJ).
Granite has been selected as part of the BBJ's Top Charitable Contributor list every year since 2009 and was ranked No. 4 in 2015 and 2016. In September, BBJ hosted its 12th annual Corporate Citizenship Awards at Fenway Park, where it was announced that Granite contributed over $20.5 million to Massachusetts-based charities in the past year. That total put them second only to Cummings Properties and its charitable foundation, which raised over $21.3 million.
The annual awards recognize companies which have contributed over $100,000 to philanthropic endeavors. The 2017 ceremony honored a record 94 companies which combined to raise over $273 million to area nonprofits. In addition to the financial contribution, Granite employees combined to donate 5,556 volunteer hours to nonprofit activities in the previous year.

Volunteers Help Feed the Hungry at the Greater Boston Food Bank
A cofounder of Granite Telecommunications, Rand Currier brings decades of experience to an organization that has emerged as a leading provider of communications services in the United States and Canada. Due to the philanthropic leadership of CEO Rob Hale, Granite Telecommunications and COO Rand Currier, the company has been repeatedly recognized for its significant contributions to area charities. In the months leading up to the holiday season, dozens of employees were mobilized to volunteer their time at the Greater Boston Food Bank.
Divided into four teams, Granite volunteers aided the Greater Boston Food Bank’s efforts to feed those in need in eastern Massachusetts. The food bank is the largest provider of food in New England and is one of the most noteworthy organizations of its kind in the nation. A member of Feeding America, the Greater Boston Food Bank is committed to providing at least one meal to every person in need in the region.
Annually providing approximately 50 million meals to people experiencing hunger is no small task. The giant undertaking is centralized at the organization’s Yawkey Distribution Center in South Boston, where food is received, sorted, and distributed to 530 member agencies and 60 direct distribution programs. Much of the food cycling through the Yawkey Distribution Center is donated by the food industry or obtained through financial contributions.

Granite Adds Over 50 Jobs through Rhode Island Expansion
Drawing on over 25 years of experience in the telecom industry, Rand Currier has guided business operations for Granite Telecommunications as its COO since 2002, during which time he has helped grow the company's revenue to over $1.35 billion with no help from outside investors. Under Rand Currier's leadership, Granite continues to expand throughout the country, and it recently announced an expansion of its Lincoln, Rhode Island office.
Granite opened a Rhode Island office at Albion Crossing in December 2013, but the company has already outgrown that space thanks in part to seven consecutive years of adding over $100 million in revenue. In May 2017, the company announced it would be opening a new 23,000-square-foot building, which is triple the size of its previous location. In conjunction with the office space expansion, the company announced plans to hire at least 50 new employees in sales, leadership, tech, and customer support positions.
The announcement of the Rhode Island expansion continued a consistent growth trend for Granite. In the past year, the company has added a third office tower at its headquarters in Quincy, Massachusetts and opened a new office in Philadelphia.

Blue Light Music Program Benefits to At-Risk Youth
Rand Currier oversees the operations of Massachusetts-based Granite Telecommunications as its COO and senior vice president of operations. At the direction of CEO & President Rob Hale, who is well known in the region for his philanthropy, Rand Currier’s staff donates to charities each week through the company’s Jeans Day Donations program, which benefits nonprofit organizations such as Crossroads Programs, Inc.
As music therapy has been proven to promote the emotional well-being of at-risk youth, Crossroads Programs has launched the Blue Light Music Program in partnership with the premier recording entity Blue Lights Digital Studio.
Through the Blue Light Music Program, youths are able to sing, write songs, play instruments, and record and mix music in a safe, collaborative environment. Participants also receive support and assistance from studio instructors who teach skills that help them lead productive lives.
The Blue Light Music Program requires support from donors to continue operation, and a donation of $250 provides one week of music therapy for five young people. Sessions consist of six hours per week.
